About Me
“Property manager by day, freelance writer by night … ”
I’ve always loved stargazing and was able to put it with another passion – writing when I pitched writing an astronomy column to the San Mateo Daily Journal. The editor loved the idea and came up with the name of the column and had the graphic artist put together an icon. It was called, “Look Up.” It ran every Saturday between 2020 and 2024. I also wrote a few articles in The Epoch Times.
I got into newswriting when I returned to Cal State East Bay to finish my bachelor’s. The retiring faculty advisor of their newspaper, The Pioneer, asked me to run the newspaper. He thought I was up for the challenge since his replacement hadn’t been named yet. I was so flattered, I couldn’t say no. There was one other writer and no photographer. I got the crash test course on how to become a good photographer. During the short summer quarter I managed to get editions out thanks to the gentlemen in the graphics and sales departments. That’s when I was bitten by the news bug. Eventually I produced a news show at the local, community television station, Pacific Coast TV, called “Pacific Coast News.” I did three shows per month and it aired three times a week. It was a volunteer project I took on while job hunting so once I returned to work, I had to let it go.
It was around this time I decided to get into property management. I felt like it was the only way I would be able to move out of my mother’s house since rents were so exorbitantly high. I’ve always done contract work in between jobs and was able to get into property management by assisting with re-certifications at low-income, tax credit property in Redwood City and senior, low-income property in Foster City. I went on to manage a market rate property in San Francisco before opening a workforce building for educators and first responders in San Mateo.
I proceeded to becoming the office and communications manager at a church. I was told that they were attracted to my property management experience because the church leased one of their buildings to the school staff and there was a caretaker that lived onsite in a dwelling that was later added to a different building. In addition, the property was very large and over 100 years old. After COVID, I returned to doing property management.
Currently, I’m doing contract work as a contract property manager while I seek permanent position. My ideal position would be in the communications field but I’m also able to apply these skills to property management.
